Import your bills with an AI of your choice
Instead of typing every bill in by hand, have an AI you already use read them for you. You give it one set of instructions, it writes your bills in DueNorth's format, and you paste the result into DueNorth to review.
Your privacy
- DueNorth never sees your bills and does not connect to any AI. Your bills go only to the AI you choose, under that service's own terms.
- The instructions tell the AI to leave out account numbers, addresses and personal details. Check what it gives you before pasting it.
- DueNorth checks the pasted text entirely in your browser. Nothing is saved until you look it over and choose Import.
How it works
-
Copy the instructions
This includes the schema (the exact format) and the rules for the AI.
-
Give them to your AI, with your bills
Open the AI you prefer. Any that can read PDFs, photos or pasted text will do. Paste the instructions, then attach or paste your bills. You can give it many bills at once.
-
Copy what it replies
It should reply with only a block of JSON. Copy all of it. One reply can hold many bills.
-
Paste it into DueNorth
Sign in, go to Bills or Setup, choose Import from JSON, paste it, and choose Check the JSON. Review the list, untick anything you do not want, pick the account the bills are paid from, then choose Import.
What DueNorth checks before it saves anything
For any value a bill does not clearly state, the AI is told to use null and never to guess. The text came from an AI that has read arbitrary documents, so DueNorth treats it as untrusted:
- Only plain JSON is read. Nothing in it is ever run.
- Only the fields listed below are used. Anything else is dropped, and you are told.
- You can correct any name or amount in the review list. Your edits are checked the same way before anything is saved.
- Names are cleaned of hidden and look-alike control characters, angle brackets and spreadsheet formula characters, and are limited to 120 characters.
- Amounts must be real dollar amounts, above zero, with at most two decimals.
- A payment link must be a plain https address to a public website, with no password in it, no numeric address and no look-alike characters. Otherwise it is left out.
- A bill that looks like one you already have, or that appears twice, is flagged and left unticked.
- Autopay is never assumed. If the AI marks a bill as paid automatically, you are asked to check.
- At most 200 bills and about 1 MB of text per import.
The format
Published as a standard JSON Schema so any AI or tool can use it: /schema/bills.v1.json. The instructions without the schema are at /schema/bills.v1.prompt.txt.
| Field | Needed | What it is |
|---|---|---|
name | Yes | What you call the bill. Up to 120 characters. |
amount | Yes | Dollars, above 0, at most two decimals. |
amountBehavior | No | fixed (default) or variable. |
due | No | rule is fixed-day, annual or every-period, with day (1 to 31) and, for annual, month (1 to 12). Only a repeating date the bill states; null if it does not. |
paymentMethod | No | manual (default), autopay or auto-transfer. |
leadDays | No | Days to allow, 0 to 30. |
paymentUrl | No | An https address for paying online. |
statement | No | Facts about one statement only: statementDate, dueDate, amountDue, minimumPayment, pastDue. Shown to you for reference and never saved. If a bill states no repeating due, DueNorth assumes the statement's due day repeats each month and flags it so you can change it in the review. The amount is never assumed. |
